“You are the salt of the earth. But if the salt loses its saltiness, how can it be made salty again? It is no longer good for anything, except to be thrown out and trampled by men.” –Matthew 5:13

Salt:
- Gives food flavor.
- Preserves food.
- Rubbing salt in an open wound can sting but it helps to control infection.
- Salt is white when ground up.
- Transparent and colorless in form.
- Soluble in water.
- An adult human body contains 250 grams of salt.
- Salt ensures the transmission of nerve impulses to and from the brain and the contractions of the heart and other muscles.
- Salt is necessary for the flow of nutrients in your body and vital to the digestion of food.
- A healthy body uses just the right amount of salt and allows the kidneys to dispose of the excess.
- Melts at 801o C and begins to vaporize at temps slightly above that.
- Absorbs moisture from damp atmospheres above 75% relative humidity.
- Common Salt is 39.3% Sodium and 60.7% Chlorine. Together these chemicals form salt. Separately, Sodium is a metal so dangerously unstable that it can burst into flames when exposed to water. Chlorine is a lethal gas.
- Some of the common uses of the chemicals made from salt are the production of fuel, margarine, medicine, food, cosmetics, water purification, pesticides, fire extinguishers, solvents, bleach, paper, soaps, and detergents.
- In fact, salt is used in manufacturing an estimated 14,000 products.
